requi r i ng ex ce l le nt e le c tr ical conduc ti vity f rom
the application substra te through the adhe sive to
the foil backing. Common use s inc l ude
grounding and EMI shie lding in equi pme nt,
components, shi e l ded rooms, etc. T he ti n pla ti ng
facilitates soldering to the backing and resists
oxidation and corrosion.
Shi eldin g Effect i v eness
Many factors determine the true shielding
effectiveness of a shielding tape, including
type and thickness of foil, adhesive type,
intimacy of c ontact, smoothness of a pplication
surface, stre ngth a nd frequency of the EMI
signal, etc. However, using sta ndard tests and
fixtures, it is possible to de termine a value f or
the attenuation. For 3M 1183 Tape, typic al
shielding effectiveness (far field) is in the
ra nge of 70dB to 85dB (30 MHz to 1 GHz).
