FCS-23A
Features
If some step times are not required, these should
be set to 00:00.
The ramp rate does not have to be set or
calculated. The final temperature for a segment is
entered and the time requir ed to reach that
temperature and the FCS-23A does the rest,
ensuring a linear increase or decrease.
Program star t can be either manual, via the key
pad or automatic, 2 seconds after power-on.
Either alarm ouput can be programmed to turn on
at the end of the final segment as a ‘patter n end
output’.
The SV display can be programmed to show either
the setpoint value, the % output power or the time
remaining for the current segment. Using one key,
the user can toggle between all three displays.
The setpoint value displayed changes as the time
increases for each segment, e.g. in the example on
the left, halfway through segment 1, the setpoint
value will be displayed as 250. This enables the
user to judge the ramp linearity by comparing the
SV with current PV.
All features the same as for FCS-13A, with the following additional advantages

Step time
Loop Break Alarm
This is a programmable alar m of temperatur e rise or fall against time. The time setting is 0 to 200
minutes and the temperature span is 0 to 100˚C (0.0 to 100.0˚C for ranges with a decimal point). If the
PV does not rise by the span or greater within the set time after the output power r eaches 100% (or does
not fall by the span or greater within the set time after the output power falls to 0%), then the alar m
contact closes.
This can be used to check that: • mobile infra-red heaters ar e placed close enough to the
target.
• multiple element heaters are all functioning.
Delayed Action Alar ms
Both alar m 1 and alar m 2 can be set as delayed types. The time is adjustable from 0 to 60 seconds (or 0
to 9999 seconds for infra-red input models). If short transient alar m conditions occur, they will be
ignored, unless they exist for at least the set time.
Main Setting Value Rising and Falling Rates
Even when the ramp/dwell feature is not being used, the rising and falling rates can be independently
programmed to ensur e that the rise or fall is controlled linearly.
This applies when the power is tur ned on, i.e. the first temperatur e rise and also if the setpoint is
changed to another value.
SM Function – Remote Memory Access
If this option is specified, then two of the seven memories can be selected using remote wiring. This is
not just a remote setpoint selection, but also a selection of pr e-programmed values for P,I,D, alarm 1
setting and the output high and low power limits for each memory.
A 3-metre, 2-wir e, flying-lead (supplied), is plugged into the back of the instrument for connection to
remote switches, push-buttons, r elay contacts, PLC outputs, etc. If the two wires ar e joined, memory
number two is selected. If the FCS is set to memory number five, for example, using the fr ont keypad,
closing and opening the wires will toggle between memories and two and five.

Notes: For ease of connection, especially when using cable tr unking, all the ter minals ar e designed to accept wires fr om the left (when looking
from the rear of the unit).
If using a pre-wired, 2-wir e Pt100 RTD, without connecting extension cables, a link should be added between ter minals 9 and 10. If using
extension cables, a third wire should be added fr om point C, one of the joins, as in the diagram above and all three wir es should be the
same gauge and length. If a simple link is added between terminals 9 and 10, in this case, no compension for lead length will be applied.
As there is no fuse inside the temperature contr oller, it is r ecommended that one is provided in the external wiring to the power supply
terminals.
The sensor wires should not be run adjacent to an AC power supply or the wires to the power supply ter minals.
When using the relay contact output version it is recommended to pr ovide an auxiliary r elay to protect the contacts of the temperature
controller’s built-in relay, even if the intended load capacity is smaller than that of the built-in contacts.
For ease of replacement without disconnecting the wiring, or to access to the internal programming switches, the unit can be withdrawn
from the housing by pressing the r elease lever under the bezel and pulling fir mly, holding the indents in the top and bottom of the bezel.
