Special conditions for EExe and EExi
terminal boxes in explosion-hazardous
areas
Electric distribution boards or terminal
boxes are required for connecting and
branching cables. For terminal boxes in
explosion-hazardous areas, special
measures must be taken to prevent
unacceptably high temperatures and the
possibility of sparks or electrical arcing
within the enclosure.
lOnly enclosure materials and component
materials adhering to the temperature
range required for Ex devices are used.
lEnclosures and cable glands correspond
to the protection class IP 65 - (minimum
specified ingress protection is IP 54), and
are therefore well protected from dust
and liquids.
lAll lid screws are captive and are located
outside the working space. Lid screws
and spring rings are stainless steel and
type tags are made of polyester (self-
adhesive, no corrosion problems).
lAll fittings (terminals, cable glands, etc.)
supplied by the manufacturer must be in
according to the ATEX rule 94/9/EG.
lThe surface resistance of black polyester
Enclosures is decreased to < 109ohm in
order to prevent damaging electrostatic
discharge. As an enclosure material,
polyester is especially resistant to chemi-
cally aggressive ambient conditions.
