The GS2970A is a multi-rate SDI Receiver w hich includes complete SMPTE processing, as per SMPTE 425M,
292 a nd SMPTE 259M-C. The SMP TE processing feature s can be bypassed to suppo rt signa ls w ith other
coding schemes.
The de vice features an Inte grated Re clocke r w ith an internal VCO and a w ide Input Jitter Tolerance (IJT) of
0.7UI.
A serial digital loop-through output is provided, w hich can be configured to output either re clocked or non-
reclocked se rial digital da ta. The serial digital output can be  connected to an external cable drive r.
The de vice operates in one of four basic mode s: SMPTE mode, DVB-ASI mode , Da ta-Through mode or
Standby mode .
In SMPTE mode  (the de fault operating mode), the GS2970A performs full SMPTE processing, and fe ature s  a
number of data inte grity che cks and measure ment capabilitie s.
The de vice also supports ancillary data  e xtraction, and can provide entire ancillary da ta packets through
host-accessible registers. It also provides a variety of othe r packe t detection and error handling features.
All of the se process ing features are optional, and may be  individua lly e nabled or disabled through register
programming.
Both SMPTE 425M Leve l A and Le vel B inputs are supported w ith optional conversion from Level B to Leve l A
for 1080p 50/59.94/60 4:2:2 10-bit inputs.
In DVB-ASI mode, sync w ord detection, alignment and 8b/10b de coding is applied to the re ce ived da ta
stream.
In Data -Through mode  all forms of SMPTE and DVB-ASI pro ce ssing a re disa bled, and the  device  can be used
as a  simple serial to pa ra llel conve rte r.
The de vice can also ope rate in a low e r pow er Standby mode. In this mode , no signa l processing is carried
out and the  parallel output is held static.
Parallel da ta outputs  are  provide d in 20-bit or 10-bit format for 3Gb/s, HD and SD vide o rates, w ith a va rie ty
of mapping options. As such, this parallel bus can interface  directly w ith video proce ssor ICs, and output
data can be multiplexed onto 10 bits for a low  pin co unt inte rface.
Up to eight cha nnels (tw o audio groups) of serial digital audio may be extra cte d from the video da ta stream,
in accorda nce w ith SMPTE 272M-C and SMPTE 299M.
The output a udio formats supporte d by the device include AES/EBU and I2S, and tw o other industry
sta ndard se rial digital formats . A variety of a udio processing feature s are  provide d to e a se implementation.
Audio clocks are  internally gene rated and provide d by the device.
