The SMT10F-12 series are non-isolated DC/DC converters
packaged in a surface-mount footprint giving designers a cost
effective solution for conversion from a 12 V source.
The SMT10F-12 has an input range of 7.5-13.2 Vdc and offers an
output voltage range from 0.8-3.6Vdc with a 10 A load, which
allows for maximum design flexibility and a pathway for future
upgrades. The SMT10F-12 is designed for applications that
include distributed power, workstations, optical network and
wireless applications. Implemented using state of the art
surface-mount technology and automated manufacturing
techniques, the SMT10F-12 offers compact size and efficiencies of
up to 91% at 3.3Vout.

1 The SMT10F-12 features an ‘Positive Logic’ Remote ON/OFF operation. If not
using the Remote ON/OFF pin, leave the pin open (the converter will be on).
The Remote ON/OFF pin is referenced to ground.
The following conditions apply for the SMT10F-12:

2 The complete range of 0.8V to 3.6V is not available in a single unit. In the
SMT10F-12S1V0 the coverage is from 0.8V to 1.65V and in the SMT10F-
12S3V0 the coverage is from 1.66V to 3.6V. The output voltage in both cases
is set by an external resistor. The current in the resistor is 28.7μA, hence
typical values of resistence from the E-96 range are shown in Table 1.
3 Output external capacitance is required for basic operation. Required
capacitance is a minimum of 264μF to meet performance parameters. This
can be made up of any combination of 22μF or 44μF MLCC. For best
performance they need to be very close to the SMT10 and connected by wide
traces, ideally by ground planes. The use of low ESR and low ESL components
is important.
4 Frequency is a function of Vin and Vout. It varies between 500kHz and 1MHz.

Pin No. Pin Description
1+Vout: The regulated positive power output with
respect to the GND node.
2 Ground: This is the common ground connection for
the Vin and Vout power connections. It is also the
0VDC reference for the control inputs.
3Power Good: This pin indicates the status of the
output voltage. Power Good is driven low if output
voltage deviates outside of specified limits.
4+Vin: The positive input voltage power node to the
module,which is referenced to common GND.
5Trim: The resistance between this pin and ground
(pin 2) sets the output voltage. The output voltage in
both cases is set by an external resistor. The current
in the resistor is 28.7μA, hence
typical values of resistence from the E-96 range are
shown in Table 1 on page 2. For further information
on output voltage adjustment consult Application
Note 165.
Pin No. Pin Description
6+V Sense: The sense input allows the regulation
circuit to compensate for voltage drop between
the module and the load. For optimal voltage
accuracy Vo Sense+ should be connected to an
output capacitor+ near the load. If voltage
regulation is not critical, connect this pin to
+Vout (pin 1).
7-V Sense: The sense input allows the regulation
circuit to compensate for voltage drop between
the module and the load. For optimal voltage
accuracy Vo Sense- should be connected to an
output capacitor- near the load. If voltage
regulation is not critical, connect this pin to
ground (pin 2).
8Remote ON/OFF: Pulling the pin TTL low or
shorting to ground wil disable the output.
