The OCT8304 is a 1023 channel full-duplex
packetization engine for Voice over IP and Voice
over AAL2 applications. The design provides
standalone high-density G.711 packetization
while enabling integration of off-the-shelf DSPs
where flexible compression or other requirements
may be added. By combining the OCT8304 with
other Octasic voice processing devices, such as
the OCT7102 ADPCM device, or the OCT6100
Series of echo cancellation devices, complete
Voice over Packet solutions can be created.
The OCT8304 is highly flexible to allow a single
architecture to address a diversity of require-
ments. By simultaneously supporting IPv4, IPv6,
and AAL2 at a full 155 Mbps bandwidth, a single
board design can be deployed that addresses
today’s and tomorrow’s connectivity demands.
Some of the network protocols supported
include: Ethernet p/Q, MPLS, and a complete
AAL5 implementation (supporting Classical IP,
LAN Emulation (V1/V2), and MPOA). To minimize
development efforts, all of these capabilities are
accessed through a common, connection
oriented API, providing a consistent image for
software development.
