module performance and test supported features.
For technical specification, please refer to the TC6000GN-P1 datasheet.
For application information and GPS antenna layout implementation, the TC6000GN Design Guide
and “GPS antenna connection” Design Guide are available. Applications were two GPS antennas
should be used, a special GPS antenna evaluation board “GPS SPDT switch” can be ordered.
The specific documents and reference layout in Gerber-file format are available for download at

3.1 Getting started ….
1. Connect the active GPS antenna to the GNS TC6000GN Starter Kit.
2. Insert the included CD into your CD Rom Drive. Change to \Driver folder.
3. Copy the two files from the \Driver folder to a PC folder of your choice.
4. TC6000GN Starter Kit will be connected to the PC via a virtual COM-Port with USB.
This conversion is performed by an onboard chip.
Do not connect the USB cable now!
First, please install the FTDI VCP (Virtual Com Port) driver by invoking USB-Driver-
CDM20600.exe.
A DOS window will open and close again after a few seconds when finished.
5. The VCP USB driver is now ready to use.
6. Connect the Starter Kit to your PC by using the USB- to miniUSB cable. This will power up
the Starter Kit (shown by the blinking green LED fix indicator) and establish the active state.
7. You should see a hint on the right lower corner of your PC screen, that a new hardware has
been found and is ready to use.
8. Assign the virtual COM-Port number by executing “Windows Start Button” and select “Control
panel”

11. Select “Ports (COM&LPT)” and notice the “USB Serial Port” number
12. Start your preferred NMEA-Viewer software (for example: Visual GPS, free NMEA-Viewer,
Link: http://www.visualgps.net/VisualGPS/default.htm ) to visualize the NMEA-protocol data
and connect COM-Port using the default data rate of the TC6000GN module of 9600Baud.

3.2 TC6000GN-P1 update and configuration tools
Depending on the evaluation board that is used, there are different approaches and tools available for
update/configuration.
3.2.1 Update and configuration with PC connection
In all cases, where a UART or USB connection to a PC is available, the GNS TC6000GN-P1
configuration tool offers a comfortable way to reprogram the firmware options.
Place 2mm jumper on jumper bar position 5 “ON_THE_FLY_PRG” pin connected to GND and plug-in
miniUSB connector. Connect the Starter Kit to the PC. It powers up and TC6000GN is in configuration
mode. The FIX_AVAILABLE pin and the LED “fix indicator” will not toggle in configuration mode.
Check the mapped COM port number by using the Windows hardware manager.
Copy from CD or GNS forum http://www.forum.gns-gmbh.com/ the TC6000GNConfig.exe to your HDD
at a location of your choice, and start the program.
The program automatically lists the available COM ports in the Serial Port Combo Box.
Select a valid COM port from the list. The baud rate during the update is fixed to 115200 in this mode
and needs no setting.
Place jumper!
