The suffix A is used to identify +10% tolerance; no suffix indicates +20% tolerance. If tighter tolerance is required, consult factory. NOTE 2 Zener Voltage (Vz) is measured with junction in thermal equilibrium with still air at a temperature of 25C. The test currents (277) have been selected so that at nominal voltages the dissipation is a constant 0.25 watts. This results in a nominal junction temperature rise of 25C, NOTE 3 The zener impedance is derived from the 60 cycle ac voltage, which results when an ac current having an rms value equal to 10% of the DC zener current (Izy or Iz) is superimposed on Igy or Iz. Zener impedance is measured at 2 points to insure a sharp knee on the breakdown curve 1,00 RMS VALUE OF 60 CPS TEST CURRENT SET EQUAL \ TO 10% OF I, 1N3051B | 100 1N3044B 1N3034B 1N30188 Zzr, ZENER IMPEDANCE (OHMS) 1N3027B 1N3022B i 4.0 10 100 lor, ZENER CURRENT (mA) FIGURE 2 TYPICAL ZENER IMPEDANCE vs. ZENER CURRENT FOR TYPES SHOWN 4900 1N3018B 1N3022B 100 s 1N3027B 1N3034B = 5 1N3044B = | <= = 10 1N3051B 1 10 10 100 Ve, REVERSE VOLTAGE (VOLTS) FIGURE 4 TYPICAL CAPACITANCE vs. REVERSE VOLTAGE FOR 1-WATT ZENERS and to eliminate unstable units. A curve showing the varia- tion of zener impedance vs. zener current for four represen- tative types is shown in Figure 2. NOTE 4 ~ These values of Izy may often be exceeded in the case of individual diodes. The values shown are calculated for a unit at the high voltage end of its tolerance range. Allowance has also been made for the rise in zener voltage above Vz7 which results from zener impedance and the in- crease in junction temperature as a unit approaches thermal equilibrium at a dissipation of 1 watt. The Iz) values shown for +5% tolerance units may be used with little error for +10% tolerance units, but should be reduced by 7% to include a +20% tolerance unit near the high voltage end of its tolerance range. | 7 200 110 | 175 VOLTAGE TEMPERATURE A COEFFICIENT % ch / 100 in + 150 8 eae e090 + A 5 nd 3 8 080 f | { 108 .
