Product Brief August 2001 Ambassador (R) T8110 PCI-Based H.100/H.110 Switch and Packet Payload Engine Introduction Applications The T8110 is the newest addition to the Ambassador series of TDM switching and backplane interconnect standard products. The T8110 can switch 4096 simultaneous time slots with 32 bidirectional local streams and 32 bidirectional H.100/H.110 streams. This device contains the capabilities of previous members of the Ambassador series and also extends them by providing a flexible interface for switching packet payloads between a local PCI bus and the ECTF H.100/H.110 buses. Packets may also be switched between the local PCI bus and local TDM streams. Refer to the website www.agere.com/ambassador for additional information. H.100 BUS TRUNKS STREAMS AGERE T8110 BRIDGE I/F COPROCESSOR LOCAL PCI BUS ETHERNET 10/100 MAC/PHY PCI PCI The new features of the T8110 were designed specifically for VoIP applications. The block diagram shown is of a board that would make use of the PCI access to the TDM memories. This part is intended to work with a coprocessor for providing header, framing, and checksum generation, but since the T8110 operates purely on payloads, multiple protocols can be supported simultaneously such as IP, ATM, and A-Bis. Support for non-PCI devices is provided through a minibridge, reducing system integration costs. A typical application is shown in Figure 1 and provides connectivity for framers, IP over Ethernet, and the ECTF H.100/H.110 bus. Data carried over an OC-3 line is terminated with the Agere Systems Inc. NetLight 2417G4A ATM/SONET/SDH optical transceiver device. Within the Agere TMXF84622 Ultramapper, there are 84 T1/E1/J1 framers that deliver the 2,016 DSO channels from the OC-3 interface onto local TDM highways or streams. The Ambassador T8110 switches these 8-bit (64 kbits/s) time slots to onboard devices or onto the system backplane (8.192 Mbits/s) with 32 bidirectional local and 32 bidirectional backplane I/O streams. Once on the backplane, this traffic can be transported onto DSP resource cards where other Ambassador devices, such as the T8100A, T8102, and T8105 will switch time slots to and from the system bus with encoding/decoding resources such as the Agere StarPro SP2000 DSPs. Traffic can be sent to additional resource cards in the system. Time slots containing signaling information can be sent to resource cards with HDLC formatters. Similarly, TDM streams with voice data can be sent to resource cards for echo/acoustical cancellation.
