Overview
The MS2430 is the industry’s first highly integrated XAUI to XAUI transceiver which
provides interconnection extensions, therefore eliminating the need for two XGXS
blocks used in XENPAK modules and backplanes. MathStar’s first transceiver of
the Aquila Family of SerDes Products, the MS2430, is a physical layer device that
implements the PCS and PMA functions of an IEEE 802.3ae 10 Gbps application
and includes several features optimized for XENPAK optical modules. The greatest
challenge module manufacturers face today is designing low power modules at com-
petitive costs. MathStar provides significant cost, power and design advantages to
optical module manufacturers by delivering a 50% power advantage while reducing
board space by 45% in comparison to the industry’s current solutions. MathStar’s
MS2430, housed in a 147 pin BGA (12mm x 12mm) package, is designed using low
power CMOS technology and operates from 3.3V and 1.8V power supplies.
